Cased Very Scarce Colt Hartford English Dragoon Percussion Revolver with Accessories This is a variation of the Third Model Dragoon manufactured for sale in England about 1853 -57 with a total production of only approximately 700 in its own serial number range of 1 to 700. The basic manufacture of these Dragoons was done in Hartford, but a great many were finished in Colt's London factory. Some were hand engraved with the Col. Colt London address on top of the barrel, the rest were marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY" as is the case with this revolver. Approximately 200 of these Dragoons remained unsold as late as 1861 and came back to America to be utilized in the Civil War. This revolver has the distinctive round trigger guard of the Third Model, the barrel and cylinder were blue, casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever, and a silver plated brass grip frame. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Ranger and Indian battle scene, as well as the "MODEL U.S.M.R. (faint)/COLT'S PATENT" marking. The left side of the frame is marked "COLT'S/PATENT". Besides the distinct serial number range the only other noticeable difference in this revolver are the "crown/V" and "crown/GP" British proofmarks on the left side of the barrel lug and on the cylinder alternating between each nipple recess. The matching serial number is marked on the cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. Fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip. A very rare variation of the Colt Dragoon percussion revolver. The revolver comes in a correct period wooden case with velvet lining. In the case are a brass two cavity bullet mold with "COLTS/PATENT" marked iron sprue cutter, a one piece nickel plated cleaning rod, a screwdriver/nipple wrench, a James Dixon oiler, a large cap tin with 12 percussion caps and a James Dixon marked powder flask with the additional unique mark "FIRE PROOF". Manufacturer: Colt Model: Dragoon BBL: 7 1/2 inch part octagon Stock: Gauge: 44 percussion Finish: blue/casehardened/silver Grips: walnut Serial Number: 381 Class: Antique Condition: Very good plus. The metal surfaces have an even crisp dark patina with some scattered minor pitting on the barrel and loading lever, as well as a small amount of minor flash pitting on the cylinder. The scene is mostly visible as well as the other markings. The grip frame retains 50% plus of the original age darkened silver plating. The grip is fine with much of the original varnish remaining, and showing some wear on the lower edges, a small minor hairline crack visible at the top on each side, and overall some minor dents and dings, and some crazing on the left side. The barrel and frame markings and the proof marks are clear. The action is tight. The case is good with some minor dings and scratches on the exterior. The tattered old lining is badly faded, and shows some, tears, stains, a small amount of material loss and moderate contact wear. The label on the cap tin has turned dark with age, has some flaking and is difficult to read, otherwise the tin and all of the accessories are very good, with the exception of the bullet mold which is restamped "54P, 44 CAL".
