Bonnet topped with a brass ball and eagle finial at the center and ball and steeple finials at the corners. Arched glazed dial door flanked by brass-capped fluted columns. Arched pendulum door flanked by fluted quarter columns. Flat bracket base. Face with a moon phase in lunette, rose sprig decoration at the corners, and a Roman numeral dial with a second sweep and subsidiary dials. Signed "Daniel Porter".

In testimony where of I have hereunder set my hand and caused the seal of the said Court to be affirmed at Richmond this first day of April one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven.". RARE AND IMPORTANT EARLY CONFEDERATE "STARS AND BARS" FLAG America, Circa 1862 The first version of the Confederate States of America flag, in use from March 4, 1861 to May 1, 1863. The seven stars in the canton represent the first states to secede from the Union and form the Confederacy: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas. According to family oral history, this flag was captured by Charles Seabury, captain of the Pacific commercial ship Seneca of New Bedford, from a Confederate privateer in 1862. The flag was returned to New Bedford as a trophy and was passed down in the family, ultimately ending up in the hands of Frank Wood, an early curator of the New Bedford Whaling Museum. It was acquired by the family of the current consignor directly from Wood in 1925 and has been in the same Nantucket home since.

RARE AND IMPORTANT EARLY CONFEDERATE "STARS AND BARS" FLAG America, Circa 1862 The first version of the Confederate States of America flag, in use from March 4, 1861 to May 1, 1863. The seven stars in the canton represent the first states to secede from the Union and form the Confederacy: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas. According to family oral history, this flag was captured by Charles Seabury, captain of the Pacific commercial ship Seneca of New Bedford, from a Confederate privateer in 1862. The flag was returned to New Bedford as a trophy and was passed down in the family, ultimately ending up in the hands of Frank Wood, an early curator of the New Bedford Whaling Museum. It was acquired by the family of the current consignor directly from Wood in 1925 and has been in the same Nantucket home since.
