CARVED AND GILT STERNBOARD FROM THE HISTORIC SCHOONER "VICTORY CHIMES"
20th Century
Attributed to Harold Stanley of Rockland, Maine. Sternboard formed as a spread-wing eagle.
Includes two photos of the schooner, housed together in a common frame.

  • Provenance: Notes:
Victory Chimes , built in Bethel, Delaware in 1900, is the last surviving Chesapeake Ram Schooner and one of only two three-masted schooners left in the United States. She was designated a National Historic Landmark and an image of her is on the Maine state quarter.

She was originally named "Edwin & Maud", but was renamed "Victory Chimes" in 1954, "Domino Effect" in 1988, and back to "Victory Chimes" in 1989. She was built to carry cargo in the Chesapeake but was converted to carry passengers in 1946. She was a charter in Maine from 1954 until 1984, when she was bought by a Minnesota banker and moved to Duluth. She was sold a handful of times in quick succession throughout the late 1980s and returned to Maine in 1989. She was purchased by New York City restaurateurs in 2023 and is currently at dock at Pier 6 in Brooklyn.
