YAYOI KUSAMA (1929-), ATTRIBUTED TO, ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

Dimensions:

80.2 x 60.6 cm. All measured values are approximate.

Provenance and Authenticity:

This painting is presented in the manner and style associated with Yayoi Kusama, one of the most influential contemporary Japanese artists known for her distinctive use of repetition, patterns, and immersive visual structures. The work reflects Kusama's celebrated exploration of organic forms, polka dots, and infinite patterns, combining decorative imagery with psychological and spatial concepts. Executed in acrylic on canvas, the composition demonstrates characteristics associated with Kusama's floral and patterned works, including intricate dot formations, bold contrasts, and rhythmic surface organization.

Signature:

Yayoi Kusama

Description:

The composition depicts a vibrant floral arrangement emerging from a dotted vase against a dark patterned background. Three colorful flowers extend upward with stems and petals covered in Kusama's signature dot motifs, while the surrounding surface is transformed through a network of repeated organic lines and geometric patterns. The contrast between vivid yellow, red, orange, blue, and green elements creates a striking visual rhythm, emphasizing repetition, movement, and the artist's fascination with the relationship between natural forms and infinite patterns. The work embodies the playful yet highly structured aesthetic that defines Kusama's contemporary visual language.

Historical significance:

Yayoi Kusama's innovative approach to repetition, pattern, and spatial perception has made her one of the most recognized contemporary artists worldwide. Her use of dots, mirrored environments, pumpkins, and floral imagery has become an iconic visual vocabulary within contemporary art. Works incorporating her signature motifs remain highly significant in the international collecting market and represent an important connection between postwar Japanese avant-garde art and global contemporary practice.

Valuation:

Works associated with Yayoi Kusama continue to attract strong international collector interest due to her distinctive artistic identity, global recognition, and enduring influence on contemporary culture. Paintings featuring her recognizable dot patterns, floral imagery, and vibrant color combinations are particularly sought after for their immediate visual impact and connection to her established artistic themes.
