Fine Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in Highly Desirable .45-70 Government Manufactured in 1901, this is a fine example of the legendary Winchester Model 1886 rifle, the first lever action repeating design made for the company by John Moses Browning. This particular example is chambered in the venerable .45-70 Government cartridge, which was widely available in the American West, and remain highly respected to this day. Having been adopted by the U.S. military, the .45-70 cartridge became highly respected on the frontier for both hunting and personal defense, making one of the these repeaters chambered for it a highly respected companion in the untamed West. This example has the attractive casehardened receiver which was standard until around the year this rifle was produced. The top flat of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the model designation, while the lower tang has the two-line patent marking and the serial number. It is fitted with a German silver No. 21 blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight. It is mounted with a very finely figured smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
