Exceptional Antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter Per the Madis serial number data published by Winchester, this rifle is legally an antique. The Winchester Collectors Association indicates that the rifle was manufactured in 1901 and the included factory letter indicates that it was received in the warehouse on 12 March 1901 and shipped on 26 October 1901 in order no. 119223. The included factory letter also confirms the caliber, round barrel, and plain trigger. Designed by the legendary John Moses Browning, the Winchester Model 1892 was intended as a strengthened and updated replacement for the iconic Model 1873, again sharing many of the same calibers as Colt's "Peacemaker", making these '92s highly valued in the American West as working guns well into the 20th century. Due to their typical utilitarian use, very few examples of these rifles remain available to collectors in high condition like this one. The rifle has the standard Winchester markings and the serial number on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a No. 21 German silver blade front sight and an elevation adjustable No. 24 notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
