Scarce Deluxe Winchester Model 1886 Extra Lightweight Takedown Rifle Manufactured in 1917. The rifle features a special order, tapered 24-inch takedown barrel with ramp mounted Lyman "Winchester Express" front sight with colored bead and a factory blank in the rear sight dovetail. A Lyman "N-NI" rear sight with locking lever is mounted on the left side of the receiver. The rifle has a takedown half magazine marked: "-PAT. JUNE 5. 1893-" on the lever. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.PAT. OCT. 14. 1884.JAN. 20. 1885." in two lines ahead of the rear sight dovetail followed by "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL-/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two lines behind the rear sight dovetail. The caliber designation "33 W.C.F." is roll stamped behind the second marking and the receiver. The top of the barrel and receiver are stamped with the Winchester oval "W/P" proofmark. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped and roll-stamped: "MODEL 1886/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S.A." in three lines. The 1884 and 1885 patent dates are roll-stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger and the serial number, "155792", is stamped on the lower tang behind the rear tang screw. The rifle has a full blue finish. The pistol grip stock and forearm are highly figured, deluxe, fancy grade walnut with Winchester Style H checkering and a piano finish. The stock has a black, hard rubber, shotgun style buttplate with impressed checkering and the Winchester logo in the center. The pistol grip has a black, hard rubber cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.". Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1886 BBL: 24 Inch Stock: fancy walnut checkered pistol grip Gauge: 33 WCF Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 155792 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Very fine. This rifle retains 85% of the blue finish overall. Nearly all of the blue is present on the barrel, magazine, forearm cap and bolt. The blue on the right side of the receiver shows handling wear and is about 75% intact. There is light finish wear on the upper tang and several minor scratches on the left side of the receiver. The hammer, lever and trigger retain nearly all of the blue finish. The receiver sight has 95% of the original blue intact. The barrel and receiver markings are sharp. The deluxe, highly figured, walnut stock and forearm remain in very fine condition and retain most of the original oiled finish with a few scattered and very minor handling marks. The checkering is sharp. This is a very fine example of a Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Extra Lightweight Takedown Rifle.
