Also known as the $3 Victor. Has original oak base that measures 10.25” x 8.25” with a light gloss. Original decal reads “The Gramophone Co. Lte. 31 Maiden Lane, London”. This low-cost machine allowed the owner to only play 7” records or it would interfere with the winding crank. It also included a children’s record with 6 songs on it with the purchase. First introduced in 1901. Mechanism is turned by hand but maintains speed through an early governor. If the mechanism had nickel plated parts, they are mostly worn off. Support arm has either been re plated or is a reproduction. The horn support and reproducer strap appear to be original but likely wood arm and cradle look replaced. Reproducer is an original long throat concert with the markings “Gramophone & Typewriter Lte. London Berlin Paris”. Black cone horn with 2 gold stripes measures 15” X 6.25” and is larger than the one that originally came with this machine. Horn has a decal with the name “Pearson Weist” which is assumed to be the dealer who sold it. Leather elbow is a replacement. One of the most sought after of the early machines.
