Syms of New York in the late 1830s to the 1850s. Only a few thousand are believed to have been produced. The pepperboxes lack Blunt & Syms New York markings which is typical. This example, pepperbox "A," has "RC" marked on the face of the ribbed barrel cluster and a floral scroll engraved frame. The engraving extends halfway down the back strap. The serial number is found on the barrel cluster, barrel cluster screw head and frame under the left grip panel. Manufacturer: Blunt & Syms Model: Pepperbox BBL: 3 3/8 inch ribbed Stock: Gauge: 31 percussion Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 64 Class: Antique Condition: Good. The pepperbox has a mixture of mottled gray and smooth dark patinas with some patches of minor pitting on the barrel cluster. The grips are fine showing some minor pressure dents and scratches. The action does not function. B) Blunt & Syms Percussion Pepperbox This example features a floral scroll engraving on the frame and back strap and a fluted barrel cluster. The serial number is found on the barrel cluster, barrel cluster screw head and frame under the left grip panel. Manufacturer: Blunt & Syms Model: Pepperbox BBL: 3 1/2 inch fluted Stock: Gauge: 31 percussion Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 60 Class: Antique Condition: Good. The pepperbox has a mixture of smooth and mottled gray patinas with some minor pitting. The grips are fine showing some minor pressure dents and scratches. The ring trigger is loose, but the action cycles.
