Desirable Long Barreled Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon Percussion Revolver with Tooled Slim Jim Holster Together the Model 1848 Baby Dragoon and Model 1849 Pocket revolvers were by far the most popular Colt percussion revolvers and by most accounts the best selling handgun of the entire 19th century. Over 340,000 of these revolvers were manufactured. In addition, the Pocket Navy and Police revolvers are also based on the Pocket sized frame. These revolvers were all very compact compared to many of the other large multi-shot firearms of the era such as the Colt Walker and Dragoon revolvers. This one was manufactured in 1849 in the early transitional serial number range with the stagecoach cylinder scene but otherwise Baby Dragoon features including the desirable long 6 inch barrel without provisions for a loading lever, the oval cylinder stops, and the squareback trigger guard. These transitional revolvers only fall around the 10400-15500 range, and many of the transitional revolvers have other features such as shorter barrel lengths, loading levers, and/or rectangular cylinder stops. The revolver also has a small brass post front sight and the two-line New York address on the barrel, the small "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the left side of the frame, all matching serial numbers (none visible on the grip), and a "0" marked by the serial numbers on the grip frame. It comes with a rare tooled, open toe, half-flap holster with no visible maker's mark. The profile is similar to the later California "Slim Jim" holsters. Most holsters from this period have no maker's marks.
