Civil War Era Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with Accessories This incredibly fine revolver was manufactured in 1861 and has a small post front sight, the one-line "NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" barrel address, a "2" on the left side of the barrel lug, standard patent markings and stagecoach cylinder scene, notch rear sight on the hammer, and standard finishes. All of the main components have stamped matching partial or full serial numbers, and the back strap inlet of the finely varnished grip is hand marked with "8744." The case contains a powder flask, cap tin, lead bullets and balls, dual cavity "COLT'S/PATENT" bullet mold, L-shaped combination tool, some extra screws, and a key. Provenance: A plaque with the revolver states that the set came from the collection of Dr. James Kahl of Cincinnati who received it in 1963 from his father who was the former president of the Pennsylvania Gun Collectors Association and one of President Eisenhower's personal physicians. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1849 BBL: 4 inch octagon Stock: Gauge: 31 percussion Finish: blue/casehardened/silver Grips: varnished walnut Serial Number: 188744 Class: Antique Condition: Very fine with 98% original silver plating with light aged patina, 85% original blue finish and 80% case colors, minor edge wear on the barrel, heavier edge wear visible on the cylinder (especially at the rear), and some minor dings and scratches. The grip is excellent and retains nearly all of the original varnish and has some light scratches and handling marks, a small chip on the heel on the right, and some dings on the lower right edge. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine and has mild overall storage wear, minor cracking of some of the dividers, and typical tearing and staining of in the lining. The accessories are mostly very fine with light aging.
