Special Order Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle This Model 1894 was manufactured in 1906 and features a special order half octagon barrel, 1/2 magazine tube, and shotgun butt. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two-line address/patent date, and the left rear upper flat is marked with the two-line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking and "30 W.C.F." at the breech. The Winchester oval proof is marked on the top barrel flat ahead of the caliber marking and on top of the receiver at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model/maker/trademark marking, and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It also has dovetailed brass blade front and three leaf (two folding, one fixed) rear sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel shotgun buttplate. The accompanying Cody Museum Records Office sheet verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, 1/2 octagon barrel, plain trigger, 1/2 magazine, shotgun butt and that it was shipped in order number 50762 on August 8, 1906. The rifle retains 75% original blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear, some thinning to a gray patina, some minor scratches and a small area of minor pitting on the receiver. Much of the original vivid case colors remain on the hammer, and the lever is a mix of original case colors and a smooth gray patina. The wood is also fine as refinished with some minor dents and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
