Documented Special Order Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle This special order rifle was manufactured in 1899 and features a special order half octagon barrel and shotgun butt. The upper left barrel flat behind the rear sight is marked with the two-line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking address/patent date, the left rear upper flat is marked with the two-line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking, and "30 W.C.F." is on the top flat at the breech. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It features dovetailed blade front and two folding leaf rear sights, a short range tang mounted peep sight, blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel shotgun buttplate. The accompanying Cody Museum Records Office sheet verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, 1/2 octagon barrel, plain trigger, shotgun butt and that it came in the warehouse on August 18, 1902, and was shipped in order number "T102330" the next day. The barrel and magazine tube retain 75% plus original blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear and some scattered light spotting. The receiver retains 50% thin original blue finish with some thinning to a smooth gray patina. The casehardened parts have a dark and gray patina with traces of original case colors in protected areas of the lever. The wood is also fine with some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
