Scarce Remington-Keene Magazine Bolt Action Carbine with Leather Sling Manufactured from 1860 to 1868 with a total production of about 5,000 rifle variations and carbines, with the carbine the least produced making them very scarce. This design was Remington's first attempt at producing a repeating rifle intending to compete with Winchester's lever action rifles and carbines. The top rear of the bolt is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION N.Y./PAT. FEBY 24 MCH 17, 1874 JAN. 18/SEPT. 26 1876 MCH 20 JULY 31 1877". The left rear of the receiver is marked ".45/70". Blade front sight mounted on the barrel band and short folding military style leaf rear sight. This was Remington's first production bolt action carbine with an external, manually cocked hammer that functions only when the bolt is closed. Mounted with a walnut straight grip half stock with a iron forend cap with sling swivel, carbine buttplate and sling swivel on the bottom of the stock. Comes with a brown leather military style sling.
