Remington No. 1 Short Range Rolling Block Sporting Rifle Manufactured from 1875 to 1890. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." behind of the rear sight, (mostly covered by an additional rear sight), the lower left side of the receiver is marked with the six line patent dates, and the matching serial number is marked on the lower tang and the bottom barrel flat under the forearm. The caliber designation "32" is marked on the bottom barrel flat ahead of the forearm. Folding combination globe front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight and added folding ladder rear peep sight. Blue barrel, niter blue hammer and breech block, and casehardened remaining parts. Mounted with a multi-point checkered walnut forearm with iron forend and straight grip stock with a carbine style buttplate. Manufacturer: Remington Arms Inc Model: No. 1 BBL: 26 inch octagon Stock: walnut Gauge: 32 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: 8032 Class: Antique Condition: Very good as partially refinished. The barrel retains 75% original blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear, some scattered light spotting, and some minor dings and vise marks. The hammer and breech block retain most of the original bright niter blue finish. 40% slightly faded case colors remain on the receiver and trigger guard with some minor spotting on the trigger guard, a silver gray patina on the lower tang and some fading to a smooth dove gray. The buttplate has a smooth gray patina with hints of faded case colors. The recheckered, revarnished wood is very good with a small 1 inch hairline crack on the left wrist, and overall some minor dings and handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
