Scarce Persian Contract Mauser Artillery Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol Manufactured between 1935 and 1936. There were a total of 2,000 Persian contract Lugers manufactured, 1,000 four-inch barreled models and 1,000, eight-inch Artillery models. The Artillery models were an exact duplicate of the WWI German Artillery Lugers except all the markings and numbering are in Farsi. The chamber area of the pistol is marked with the Persian crest, and the front toggle is also marked in Farsi for the Mauser factory. The left side of the barrel extension is marked in Farsi, and the left side is marked with the Mauser double crown over "U" commercial proofmark. The full serial number "3699" is marked on the front of the frame, magazine base and the left side of the barrel extension, and the last two digits of the serial number (99) are marked on the small parts. Includes a combination locking canvas covered hard case with a 28 round cartridge block. In the case are 6 nickel magazines, one unmarked, one with an unrecognizable marking and 4 with serial numbers in Farsi, and 5 takedown tools. Manufacturer: Mauser Model: 1936 BBL: 8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Luger Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 3699 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fine. The pistol retains 70% original blue finish with some muzzle and high point wear, some thinning and minor dings on the barrel, and some light spotting on the grip straps. The small parts show original straw color in protected areas with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The grips are very good with some minor wear, dings and bruises in the otherwise crisp checkering. Most of the markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. The custom case is very good. There is some minor oxidation on some of the magazines, otherwise the accessories are good.
