Outstanding Krieghoff "P" Code Commercial Luger Pistol with Matching Magazine This is a beautiful example of a very late production Krieghoff "P" code Series II commercial contract Luger. These Lugers, although produced in the "P" code serial number range, are considered as a unique group of Lugers all in themselves with only approximately 100 produced in total. The distinguishing feature of this model is that they have the standard three-line "Heinrich Krieghoff/Waffenfabrik/Suhl" markings on the front toggle with no side-frame inscription as normally seen on this series of Luger. The theory is that they were produced for a late war Luftwaffe contract that never materialized. These Lugers are described in detail on page 228 and 229 of the late Randall Gibson's reference book on Krieghoff Lugers. This pistol with serial number "P44" falls right in line with the others also listed in that reference book. As noted, only the full serial number "P44" is stamped on the front of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension, with no other serial numbers on any of the parts. The right side of the barrel extension, left side of the breech-block and back of the side plate are all marked with a small "LWaA" 1944 pattern acceptance/inspection proof with a single "Nazi Eagle/N" commercial proof on the left side frame rail, barrel extension rear of the side plate and the right side of the breechblock and back side of the side plate. It is fitted with a set of the unmarked late Mauser type, black checkered plastic grips that have a single mold mark and screw hole on the backside. The pistol is complete with one blue milled magazine body marked "122/Eagle/37" on the side with an aluminum base numbered "44" on the bottom. Manufacturer: Krieghoff Heinrich Gun Co Model: P.08 BBL: 3 7/8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.65 mm Luger Finish: blue Grips: plastic Serial Number: P44 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish overall with only light edge and high spot wear. The various small parts retain 90% of their straw colors overall with edge wear. The grips are both in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering and only minor handling marks. As noted, this rare late production "P" code Luger has all matching numbers including on the magazine.
