Bound with some issues of Carey's The Complete Counting House Companion... (beginning March 5, 1785). Front and rear boards perished, leather spine mostly perished, remnants of spine label; condition of contents generally worn; many pages creased or with closed tears.

an extensive run of one of Mathew Carey's first printed newspapers in America, the Pennsylvania Evening Herald and American Monitor.

Printed during the end of the era of the Confederation Congress, many issues feature commentary on contemporary national or Pennsylvania state politics. Included are multiple articles honoring the exploits of Benjamin Franklin, then the President of the State of Pennsylvania. Many of the problems or legislations reported would lead to a call for reform of the Articles of Confederation at the Annapolis Convention in 1786, and the subsequent Constitutional Convention in September of 1787.

Mathew Carey (1760-1839) of Philadelphia was one of the most prominent printers of the early Federal Era.
