Finely woven Native American polychrome tray basket of shallow circular form, executed in tightly coiled natural plant fibers with an elegant geometric stepped motif encircling the interior rim and repeating along the exterior wall. The basket displays a harmonious palette of warm honey, chestnut, and deep brown tones, creating a bold rhythmic pattern that highlights the exceptional skill of the weaver. The finely executed coil construction demonstrates careful attention to both structure and decorative design, with an intricately woven spiral center transitioning seamlessly into concentric bands of alternating natural and darker fibers. The broad flaring rim and balanced proportions make the basket equally suitable as a functional object or as an important display piece. Native American basketry represents one of North America's most sophisticated textile traditions, with baskets serving practical, ceremonial, and artistic purposes. Examples displaying strong geometric ornamentation and refined workmanship such as the present basket continue to be highly regarded for both their aesthetic qualities and the remarkable technical mastery required in their creation. A handsome example of traditional Native American basketry, exhibiting excellent visual impact and finely preserved weaving throughout.

  • Circa: Early to Mid 20th Century, circa 1920–1950.
  • Condition: Overall very good vintage condition. Displays expected age-related wear consistent with use and age, including minor surface wear, scattered small losses and occasional fiber separations. The basket retains a pleasing form with tight weaving and attractive natural patina. No significant structural damage observed from the photographs.
