A handsome and sculptural pair of hand-carved hardwood elephant bookends, each expertly fashioned from solid wood and depicting a standing elephant emerging from an integral architectural back support. Executed with clean, modernist lines while retaining expressive carved details, the figures display finely incised eyes, ears, trunks, and legs, with one elephant retaining prominent faux ivory tusks. The warm-toned hardwood exhibits an attractive natural grain enhanced by a hand-polished finish, lending depth and richness to the carvings. One elephant retains both faux ivory tusks; the opposing example appears to have loss or wear to the tusk area. Stable and structurally sound with attractive overall presentation.
