W.F.& Co. Marked Ithaca Gun Co. Grade A New Ithaca Gun Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1892, this New Ithaca Gun certainly has the look of having spent time in the American West and bears a "W.F. & Co." marking stamped on the rib near the breech. Wells Fargo & Co. was a prominent business on the frontier, moving both cargo and people over large distances, much of which remained very much untamed. The company is known for having purchased various firearms in large numbers for arming their express agents, including Ithaca shotguns like this. The included factory letter lists this shotgun as a Grade A 10 gauge gun with 32 inch twist steel barrels. The letter notes that there are no records of who the gun was sold to, but that it is quite possible it was sold to Wells Fargo & Co. and the barrels shortened by either the company or the agent it was issued to. The gun has the standard Ithaca markings along with the previously mentioned "W.F. & Co." stamp. The period shortened barrels have a brass bead front sight installed on the rib. It is mounted with a checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber buttplate.
