BRANKO DINIC
Serbian, 1930-2012

Oil on canvas.
Vibrant painting that exemplifies the classic, charming aesthetic of Yugoslav naive art. The composition depicts a bustling, idyllic rural village nestled against rolling, patchwork hills under a soft pink sky. In the foreground, villagers engage in traditional agricultural life, featuring a farmer leading a pair of oxen, a horse-drawn wagon loaded with harvest goods, and a stone-based watermill positioned over a winding stream. Signed lower right. Verso titled. Framed.

  • Provenance: ARTIST PROFILE: Serbian naive artist Branko Dinic (1930–2012) was born in the village of Milosevo near Jagodina and began painting in 1969, leading to his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Naive Art in Jagodina in 1972. Deeply connected to his rural roots, Dinic drew inspiration from daily village life to capture the architecture, landscapes, and customs of the Pomoravlje region. His detailed compositions focus heavily on the elements of traditional village houses, populating the scenes with numerous human figures and domestic animals against a backdrop of cultivated hills, vineyards, and orchards. Characterized by a vibrant palette, his artwork utilizes a vast array of green and yellow tones, famously rendering the sky in distinct shades of red and pink rather than blue.
  • Dimensions: 14 x 16 inches; frame: 15.5 x 17.5 inches
  • Medium: Oil on canvas.
