An elegant Chinese hand-crafted cloisonné enamel covered box, richly decorated in brilliant gilt wirework over a warm gilded ground with finely executed floral and foliate motifs in shades of cobalt blue, lavender, emerald green, turquoise, and crimson. The domed lid is surmounted by a gilt knop finial and mirrors the intricate decoration of the body, creating a harmonious and refined presentation. Executed in the traditional cloisonné technique, delicate brass wires (cloisons) form individual cells that are meticulously filled with vibrant enamel before firing and polishing to achieve the lustrous finish for which Chinese cloisonné is celebrated. This labor-intensive decorative art reached its greatest refinement during the Ming and Qing dynasties and continues to be produced by skilled artisans using centuries-old methods. The interior retains its original "Hand Made Cloisonné Ware" label, indicating traditional Chinese manufacture. The compact covered form is suitable as a trinket box, jewelry casket, ginger jar, or decorative cabinet object, offering exceptional versatility while displaying beautifully on a desk, vanity, or vitrine. Richly colored, expertly detailed, and finely proportioned, this attractive cloisonné vessel is a timeless example of one of China's most celebrated decorative arts and would make an excellent addition to any collection of Asian art or fine decorative objects.

  • Literature: Chinese cloisonné (Jingtailan) is a decorative enameling technique utilizing fine metal wire to create intricate compartments filled with colored enamel. The craft flourished during the Ming Dynasty, particularly under the Jingtai Emperor (1450–1457), and remains one of China's most recognizable and admired decorative arts.
  • Circa: Late 20th Century, circa 1970–1990.
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition. Enamel remains bright and vibrant with no obvious losses or repairs observed. Minor surface wear and light rubbing to the gilt finish consistent with age and handling. Lid fits properly and the original interior paper label is present.
