JACKSON POLLOCK (1912-1956), ATTRIBUTED TO, OIL ON CANVAS

Dimensions:

35 1/2 x 51 3/4 in. All measured values are approximate.

Provenance and Authenticity:

This painting is presented in the manner and style associated with Jackson Pollock, one of the most influential figures of Abstract Expressionism and a pioneer of the American action painting movement. The work reflects Pollock's celebrated drip-painting technique, characterized by spontaneous gestures, layered pigments, and an emphasis on movement and physical process. Executed in oil on canvas, the composition demonstrates visual qualities associated with Pollock's mature abstract works, including energetic line structures, rhythmic paint application, and complex interactions between color and texture.

Signature:

Jackson Pollock

Description:

The composition presents an energetic field of layered paint dominated by vibrant pink, black, white, green, and yellow tones. Dynamic drips, splashes, and sweeping lines overlap across the surface, creating a sense of continuous motion and visual intensity. Rather than depicting a recognizable subject, the painting focuses on gesture, rhythm, and the physical act of painting itself. The dense network of intersecting marks reflects the expressive freedom and emotional energy that define Pollock's iconic abstract compositions.

Historical significance:

Jackson Pollock's revolutionary approach to painting transformed the direction of twentieth-century art and established Abstract Expressionism as a major international movement. His innovative use of dripping, pouring, and gestural application challenged traditional concepts of composition and technique, placing emphasis on the artist's physical interaction with the canvas. Works reflecting this visual language remain central to the study and collecting of postwar American art.

Valuation:

Works associated with Jackson Pollock represent one of the most important categories within modern and contemporary art collecting. His abstract compositions are highly valued for their historical significance, distinctive technique, and influence on generations of artists. Paintings featuring strong gestural energy, complex layering, and recognizable elements of his drip style continue to attract significant international collector interest.
