J. E. Geiger Marked American Long Rifle This rifle is stamped with "J. E. GEIGER" on the top of the barrel in bold font between the rear sight and breech. John E. Geiger was born around in 1800, raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, by German immigrant parents, trained as a gunsmith in Williamsport, and settled in Towanda in 1830. The rifle has an "E. P. SMITH/WARRANTED" lock with typical style of accents, plain trigger, fancy patch box without engraving but pierced seven times, simple blade and notch sights, two small side plates, silver inlays on the wrist and cheekpiece, and the Roman nose stock profile popular on Pennsylvania long rifles. Manufacturer: American Model: Flintlock BBL: 39 3/4 inch octagon Stock: walnut Gauge: 39 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: NSN Class: Antique Condition: Fair as reconverted to flintlock and shortened a few inches at the muzzle. It has dark brown patina and some mild oxidation and pitting on the iron, aged patinas on the brass and silver, and scattered dings and marks throughout. The stock has a crude repair visible at the toe, crack forming on the right side of the forend, and some very subtle signs of minor restoration. The lock functions fine and has a replacement top jaw. The markings are legible.
