Scarce Engraved H.E. Dimick Deringer (St. Louis) Style Percussion Pocket Pistol This pistol was manufactured by Horace .E. Dimick's shop in the mid-19th century based on Henry Deringer's popular designs. Dimick sold a variety of firearms and frontier goods through his "Western Emporium" in St. Louis including pistols, rifles, and shotguns built by the 27 gunsmiths he employed. He was a direct competitor of the famous Hawken brothers, and his company is known to have supplied arms to many heading to the West, presented Brigham Young with the Colt Model 1849 Pocket sold through our auction last year, and armed Birge's Western Sharpshooters during the Civil War. While we have sold several Dimick firearms in the past, this is the first Dimick deringer we have had the pleasure of making available at auction. It has "H. E. DIMICK" marked on top of the barrel, a German silver post front sight, fixed notch rear sight on the scroll engraved breech, scroll and patriotic shield engraving on the lock, a skull and crossbones engraved among the scrollwork on the German silver trigger guard which has a pineapple finial, a shield shaped thumb plate, and a checkered bird's head stock.
