Four Pieces of Confederate Currency There are four relatively rare pieces of Confederate currency. Most C.S. notes were destroyed since they became essentially worthless at the end of the war. They are valuable numismatic and Americana pieces. 1) $50 dated July 25th, 1861, (T-8 1861) with George Washington at the center and Tellus Mater (Mother Earth) on the left and marked "No. 31354." It was redeemable after two years after the date and is signed on the back. 2) $5 dated Sept. 2nd, 1861, (T-33 1861) with Minerva (Wisdom) on the right and 1st C.S. Secretary of the Treasury Christopher Memminger at the center. It is marked "No. 8606" and was redeemable six months after a ratified peace treaty had the South won. 3) $10 dated Dec. 2nd, 1862, (T-52 1862) with the a Confederate capital design at the center and 2nd C.S. Secretary of State Robert Hunter on the bottom right. It is marked "No. 70423" and would have been redeemable six months after a ratified peace treaty in the event of a C.S. victory. 4) $10 dated Feb. 17th , 1864, (T-68 1864) with 2nd C.S. Secretary Robert Hunter in the bottom right and mounted troops pulling a cannon at center. It is marked "No. 15730" and would have been redeemable two years after the ratification of a peace treaty had the Confederacy been victorious.
