Scarce Dual Caliber .44 Russian/.44 S&W Special First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter and Accessories This revolver was manufactured in 1926 and is chambered for both .44 Russian and .44 S&W Special cartridges. According David Brown in "The 36 Calibers of the Colt Single Action Army," Colt only manufactured 24 standard frame Single Action Army dual caliber .44 Russian/.44 S&W Special revolvers (page 103-104). The factory letter lists it as shipped on June 2, 1926, to H & D Folsom Arms Company as the sole gun of this type in order number 1152/1 in .44 S&W with a 5 1/2 inch barrel, blue finish, rubber grips, and special order 4 pound trigger pull. The earlier production replacement grips are checkered and embossed with the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top and the federal eagle at the bottom and handmarked "WE" on the back. The grips are not numbered. The frame has the standard three-line patent marking followed by the Rampant Colt emblem. The barrel has the one-line address on top and "RUSSIAN/S&W SPECIAL" followed by "44" on the left side. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "3" above the Colt "VP" proofmark. The right rear trigger guard bow exhibits a factory rework "?" style stamp. The grip straps and cylinder are numbered to the gun, and the matching assembly number is marked on the loading gate and frame. With the revolver is a cylinder with ejector, checkered Rampant Colt embossed SAA grips numbered "14862," Second Generation .38 caliber SAA black box numbered "1703," instructions and a leather Lawrence holster for a 5 1/2 inch barreled SAA.
