Fine, Rare & Engraved Westley Richards "Ovundo" Double Barrel Hand Detachable Lock (Drop Lock) Single Trigger Over-And-Under Shotgun with Extra Barrels With blacked extra barrels, serial number "18945", with raised ventilated matted rib with intermediate white bead and steel front bead sights. The left rib signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. LONDON" and the flats of the barrels towards the breech end engraved "OVUNDO SYSTEM REG.D NO. 354045/1913" on the left and "PAT. 170.703/1920" on the right. The breech end of the upper barrel and the side bolsters engraved with scrollwork. Casehardened scroll engraved action with blued hinged floor plate engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS/PATENT/OVUNDO", the top of the action engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT ONE TRIGGER", blued hold open top lever, and blued manual safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". Engine turned locks respectively inlaid with a gold "R" and "L". Casehardened scroll engraved side plates each with hinged inspection cover and signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS". Casehardened trigger plate with blued barrel selector and gold inlaid "O" and "U". Well figured 15 inch pistolgrip stock including 1 inch leather covered recoil pad and with raised Monte Carlo comb, checkered grip and forearm. Dark hardwood forearm cap and pistol grip cap, the last engraved with scrollwork, and the underside of the butt has a vacant gold escutcheon. Weight: 7 lbs. 11 oz., Birmingham nitro proof marks, 2 3/4 inch chambers, bored approx. 5/8 and full choke, barrel dimensions: upper proved at 12, measuring .730, minimum wall thickness 27; lower proved at 12, measuring .734, minimum wall thickness 32. In maker's fitted leather case lined in purple baize, the lid with Westley Richards & Co. trade label, and with canvas and leather outer. The case contains the original pair of blacked barrels, now sleeved at 26 inch, and some accessories including oil bottle and snap caps. The barrels with slightly raised concave rib is engraved "OVUNDO" and the flats of the barrels are engraved with patent details as per the main barrels. The side bolsters are engraved en suite with the main barrels. Weight: 7 lbs. 4 oz., Birmingham nitro proof marks, 2 3/4 inch chambers, bored approx. imp. Cyl. And 3/8 choke, barrel dimensions: upper proved at .729, measuring .729, minimum wall thickness 30; lower proved at .729, measuring .729, minimum wall thickness 27. The manufacturer confirmed that this shotgun was completed on 15 October 1923 for H.E. Allen with single trigger and patent detachable locks with hinged cover plates. The extra 32 inch barrels with 2 3/4 inch chambers were completed in 1955 for H.B. Readings. Barrel exhibits 98% blue finish with only very minor handling marks and surface scratches. Engraving is crisp, clear and excellent. Restocked to a high standard, the stock with sharp checkering throughout, some very light storage marking with a small patch of bruising to the right side of the forearm within the checkering.
