Exceptional Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle in Desirable .405 WCF Caliber with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1905 this rifle is accompanied with a factory letter stating it was received in the warehouse on July 27, 1905 and shipped July 31, 1905. It was returned and repaired on August 28, 1905. The rifle has a raised Lyman blade front sight with bead, two folding leaf rear sight, and an adjustable Lyman receiver peep sight. The barrel has the two-line smokeless powder marking ahead of "405 W.C.F.", with the factory proof on the barrel and receiver. Standard two-line New Haven address/patent dates on the left side of the receiver, three-line model designation/trademark information on the upper tang, and the serial number on the lower tang. Plain Schnabel forearm with ebony insert and plain straight grip stock with crescent buttplate. One seldom finds these powerful .405 WCF Model 1895s with crescent buttplates. Most were delivered with shotgun butts due to the severe recoil. Very scarce! The barrel retains 97% original blue finish with some scattered minor surface rust. The frame and non-detachable box magazine retains 95% bright original blue finish. The lever retains approximately 70% blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The buttplate retains 60% faded original case colors fading to a smooth silver gray patina with limited minor spotting. The wood is very fine with scattered minor dings and scratches.
