Early Production Sheriffs Model Colt Model 1877 Double Action Revolver with 3 1/2 inch Etched Barrel Panel This is an excellent example of a very desirable 3 1/2 inch barrel, ejector less "storekeepers" model Colt 1877 DA revolver with etched barrel panel markings with the nickel plated finish and rosewood grips. The top of the barrel has the short two-line markings of "COLTS' PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.", and the left side is marked with the rare etched barrel panel markings of "COLT D.A.38". The left side of the frame has the standard Colt three line patent dates. It has matching serial number on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, back side of the cylinder and the underside of the barrel. Serial numbered barrels are usually only on early production revolvers. The left rear side of the left trigger guard bow is marked "38 CAL". This pistol has the very desirable nickel plated finish with the Colt niter blue hammer and trigger and a one-piece set of rose-wood grip. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1877 Lightning BBL: 3 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 38 long Colt Finish: nickel Grips: rosewood Serial Number: 1254 Class: Antique Condition: Very fine as partially refinished (grips) with 95% of the unpolished original nickel plated finish overall, some minor edge and high spot wear or flaking, some minor erosion on the left side recoil shield, and a very noticeable drag line visible towards the front end of the cylinder. The hammer and trigger retain 40% of their blued finish mostly in the protected areas. The refinished, revarnished grip is also in very good condition showing some minor chips in the finish overall with clear distinct checkering on both sides. Mechanically fine.
