Scarce 2 1/2 Inch Barreled Sheriffs Model Colt 1877 Double Action Revolver This is an example of a very scarce 2 1/2 inch barrel Colt 1877 ejector less "storekeepers" model 1877 DA revolver, as manufactured in late 1906. Since this example has the very short barrel it has the rare smaller and very short barrel markings of: "COLTS' PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." with the left side marked with block style markings of: "COLT D.A.38". The left side of the frame has the standard Colt three line patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt logo. The revolver has the high polish blued finish with the color casehardened frame and niter blued actions screws, hammer and trigger. It is fitted with a one-piece set of checkered hard rubber grips. It has matching serial number on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the cylinder unnumbered. The loading gate is marked with assembly number "342". The left rear side of the left trigger guard bow is marked with the later Colt "VP" proof along with a letter "T" on the rear. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1877 Lightning BBL: 2 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 38 long Colt Finish: blue Grips: hard rubber Serial Number: 160341 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fine as partially refinished (cold blue on both grip straps) with 60% plus of the original finish on the balance showing wear and bluing loss on the front and rear grip straps and sides of the barrel. The various smaller parts retain 70% of their nitre blue finish. The frame and loading gate retain 60% of their case colors overall with blue in the protected areas and finish loss on the sides of the frame. The grips are in very good condition overall with clear and distinct Colt markings and more wear and smoothness on the lower sides of the grips.
