Unique Danish Schouboe Semi-Automatic Test Pistol in Rare 11.35 mm (.45) Caliber This is a fine example of an extremely rare Danish semi-automatic pistol designed by Theodore Schouboe in the unique 11.35 mm cartridge. These were originally designed from the Danish Model 1903 pistol and were later redesigned for this larger caliber and produced in the 1912 time frame. They were designed to fire the much larger 11.35 mm cartridge developed by the DWM factory and were originally submitted for testing by the U.S. Ordnance Dept. in 1912. They were a very simple blowback design that was robust and well made; however, the only flaw was that is was not designed to handle the standard U.S. 45 ACP cartridge. Instead, it was designed to fire a very unique 11.35mm cartridge that fired a light 60 grain, high-velocity bullet and had a very thin jacket with a wooden core to help reduce the recoil but still produced a very high velocity with limited penetration capability. However, it was not considered as it was not a good as the U.S. Designed 45 ACP cartridge, and consequently, it was rejected by all countries. As noted, it was a very well made pistol that, with some better engineering for the more powerful cartridge, could have been a real contender on the world market. The side of the receiver is stamped: DANSK-REKYLRIFFEL SYNDIKAT" for the factory were it was manufactured. It is serial numbered "502" on the rear of the frame and has no other visible numbers. It is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips and comes with one original magazine that is serial numbered "503" on the spine. Manufacturer: Danish Model: Semi-Automatic BBL: 4 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 11.35 mm Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 502 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine with 75% of the original blue finish remaining overall and the balance a brown patina with edge and high spot wear. The grip straps show the majority of the brown patina mixed with some oxidation/light pitting. The grips are in very fine condition with nice, distinct checkering overall mixed with some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. A very rare and interesting pistol with limited production.
