[CONFEDERATE] James D.Richardson (1843-1914) U.S. congressman from Tennessee from 1885 through 1905. Before graduating from college, Richardson enlisted in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, and served nearly four years. The first year he was a private and the remaining three years as adjutant of the Forty-fifth Regiment, Tennessee Infantry. His signature on a 6-1/4 x 2-3/4 in slip. His signature is slightly cropped away at top edge. Below is the signature of Melville Bull (1854-1909) U.S. Representative from Rhode Island. Also signed on the verso by Alexander Monroe Dockery (1845-1926) was an American physician and politician from the state of Missouri. A Democrat, he was a multi-term member of the United States House of Representatives and the 30th Governor of Missouri.
