[AMERICANA] Plea from a convict in the Dedham [Mass] jail to the judge who put him there. The letter was written by J.H. Wellcome, from the Dedham jail, to Samuel B. Noyes, the judge. Apparently he has been in jail for 9 months for a crime involving a bracelet. Letter is dated Dec. 19, 1853 and is 4 full pages. Wellcome attempts to convince the judge of his inocense. Judge Samuel B. Noyes was a prominent lawyer, and a historian. The family connections meant that Noyes knew everyone and in fact was part of a prominent Canton delegation that attended Daniel Websters funeral in October 1852. The letter is accompanied with the stamp cover on which Noyes writes that the letter was written to him "but never has been read by me - S.B. Noyes". Excellent condition.
