Extremely Rare Documented Factory Cased Colt London Model 1862 Pocket Navy Percussion Revolver Offered here is an excellent example of a seldom encountered Colt London Model 1862 Navy revolver. Colt manufactured only a limited number of these revolvers with the London barrel address and are recorded in the 17,000, 34,000, 37,000 and 39,000 serial number ranges. Only 9 or 10 are known to exist, and not all are cased. It is one of the rarest known cased Colt London sets. This example was featured on the cover of the February 2001 edition of The Gun Report (see the article on page 34). The barrel, cylinder and grip straps feature a high polish blue finish, and the loading lever, hammer and frame are casehardened. The blued steel grip straps are characteristic of London Model 1862 Navy revolvers. The top barrel flat is stamped "ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON." The left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS/PATENT," and the left side of the trigger guard is stamped "36 CAL." The revolver has British London "Crown/CP" and "Crown/V" proof and inspection marks stamped on the left side of the barrel lug and in each cylinder flute. The cylinder has the stagecoach holdup scene. The letter "L" is stamped with the serial number on the frame and trigger guard. Matching serial numbers are found on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, arbor pin and wedge. Comes with the original partitioned case which features a paper Colt London label on the interior of the lid, green baize lining and contains a set of accessories (powder flask, .36 caliber marked Colt's patent two-cavity bullet mold, "L" wrench/screwdriver, Eley percussion cap tin, wood handle bore rod, Dixon oiler and case key). The equally rare powder flask was manufactured by Dixon specifically for Colt pocket revolvers. Note the 3/8, 1/2 and 5/8 dram marked charger; standard pocket is 2/8, 3/8 and 4/8 dram. The powder flask is marked with the three-line Dixon address, as well as "COLT'S POCKET FLASK." Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1862 Pocket Navy BBL: 5 1/2 inch octagon Stock: Gauge: 36 percussion Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: walnut Serial Number: 37309L Class: Antique Condition: Extremely fine. The barrel, cylinder and grip straps retain 85% bright original high polished blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The cylinder has a patch of minor pitting and retains most of the scene. 60% plus original case colors remain on the loading lever, frame and hammer. The grip is very fine with a number of minor-moderate pressure dents and scratches, and retaining most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The rare case is very fine with a hairline crack on the bottom, minor handling/storage marks and fine original lining. Most of the exceptional Colt London label remains. The powder flask is excellent. A high conditioned and extremely rare cased Colt London Model 1862 Pocket Navy with equally rare accessories that will greatly enhance the most advanced Colt antique collection.
