Twenty-Five Pieces of Confederate Currency Includes two $.50 (T-63 1863 and T-72 1864), two $1 (T-62 1863 and T-71 1864), two $2 (T-70 1864 and T-42 1862), five $5 ( T-53 1862, T-60 1863, T-69 1864, T-37 1861, and T-37 1861), five $10 (T-24 1861, T-28 1861, T-10 1861, T-30 1861, and T-46 1862), three $20 (T-20 1861,T-9 1861, and T-58 1863), three $50 (T-50 1862, T-57 1863, and T-14 1861), and three $100 (T-41 1862, T-40 1862, and T-56 1863). The notes have portraits of influential southern men and women, idealized scenes of southern agriculture and industry including slaves working the fields on one of the $100 notes, and symbolic characters from ancient Greco-Roman mythology. Each note was redeemable a set amount of time after a peace treaty was reached between the U.S. and C.S.A. (most of these are 6 months or 2 years), but they became essentially worthless except for their value as scrap paper after the Confederacy collapsed. Only two of the $100 notes have interest paid markings on the back. These bonds had lost most of their marker value even in the later years of the war; thus, relatively little Confederate currency was preserved making each piece valuable to collectors. The variety of designs has made them particularly popular with numismatic enthusiasts. The notes are all contained in individual protective sleeves and have minor wear at the edges including some slight tears, a few have notches absent, and some pieces have minor to mild stains.
