The stone cleverly utilized to depict a black cat's head emerging at the lower front and a butterfly with a black and dark brown body on the reverse. With a mottled green hardstone stopper. Height: 2 ¾ in. (7 cm) including stopper Condition: Good overall. Light surface scratches and expected wear. No chips or cracks. Note: Agate snuff bottles using natural markings, known as "qiao diao" or "clever carving", were highly prized in the Qing dynasty. This example is consistent with late Qing dynasty production. The combination of cat and butterfly forms the rebus "mao die", a homophone for "mao die" meaning "longevity at 80-90 years".

Pair of Chinese Cloisonné Enamel and Gilt Bronze Qilin Beast Censers. Late Qing Dynasty to early 20th Century. Each finely cast as a mythical qilin, powerfully modeled standing foursquare on a rectangular plinth. The gilt-bronze heads with finely incised manes and fierce expressions, the detachable heads forming the covers, the mouths open to emit smoke. The bodies and rectangular stands richly decorated in cloisonné enamel with stylized lotus scrolls, composite floral motifs, and scaly dragon-like patterns on a turquoise-blue ground. The sides of the stands with four shou characters for longevity amidst scrolling tendrils. The base of each stand centered with a gilt-bronze square panel bearing a four-character reign mark in seal script: Qianlong nian zhi (Made in the Qianlong reign). Dimensions: Height Approx.15 1/2 in. (40 cm), long, 11 1/2 in. (30 cm). Weight over 40 pounds. Condition Report:The gilt-bronze elements with natural wear to gilding and patination, consistent with age. Minor losses and bruises to the enamel, typical of handling. Verdigris to the interior of the censers.

Chinese Ge-Type Cracked Bowl Possibly Southern Song Dynasty, 12th-13th Century. The deep rounded bowl with gently flared rim, covered overall in an unctuous ivory glaze suffused with a dense network of dark 'iron-wire' and golden 'golden-thread' crackles jinsi tiexian. The rim and foot bound in metal, now with a dark patina. The glaze stops neatly above the foot, revealing the dark brown body beneath. Contained in a fitted Japanese wooden box tomobako. The box lid inscribed in ink: Henan Province Bowl / Sung Dynasty. Diamenter: 5 1/4 in. (13.75 cm); 3 1/8 in. (8.3 cm) high . Condition Expected old wear to the metal mounts. The glaze with a few small glaze losses to the crackle edges and minor fritting to the rim. A small area of glaze flaking to the center of the interior base. No restoration. The box with wear and old English/Chinese inscriptions, consistent with age. Catalogue Note: Ge ware, one of the 'Five Great Kilns' of the Song dynasty, is the most elusive and revered of all Chinese ceramics. Defined by its thick, opaque glaze and dramatic dual crackle, genuine Southern Song examples are extraordinarily rare. This bowl displays the classic jinsi tiexian crackle: bold dark lines intersected by a finer network of golden threads. The metal-bound rim is a traditional Japanese mounting, indicating this piece entered a Japanese tea ceremony chanoyu collection centuries ago, where Song wares were treasured above all others. The old wooden box with bilingual attributions further confirms its early entry into a scholarly collection. To hold a Song Ge bowl is to hold a piece of the Song aesthetic ideal: the beauty of imperfection, age, and restraint.

The composition executed in delicate gong brushwork with subtle ink washes and touches of color. Inscribed in four columns of elegant running script: "Xin Hai dong Mo xi wang zuo yu yihuzhai" - winter month of the Xinhai Year, made by xi wang at the one pot studio followed by one red seal. Surmounted by a latter fitted stopper. Height: 2 1/2 in (6.4 cm). Condition: overall in good condition with minor nibbles to edges. The stopper a later replacement. light surface wear consistent with age and handling. Catalog note: The inscription and style place this bottle firmly within the circle of Wang Xisan (born: 1938), the preeminent master of 20th - century inside-painting and founder of the Hebei school. "Yihuzhai"-'one pot studio ' was his celebrated workshop in Beijing.

Famille Rose Cabbage and Insect BowlGuangxu Mark and of the Period (1875-1908) The deep rounded bowl delicately potted with thin walls, the exterior exquisitely enameled in the famille rose palette with a continuous scene of green bok choy cabbages, blue mushrooms, and a cricket and grasshopper amidst foliage. The leaves and insects rendered with fine ink outlines and delicate shading, with gilt highlights to the cabbage veins. The base with a six-character iron red seal mark Dao Guang Nian Zhi within a square. Diameter: approx. 5 1/2 in. (14 cm) Condition: a tiny chip to rim, free from cracks, or restoration. The enamels are vibrant and well-preserved with minimal wear to the gilding. A small area of wax residue within the foot rim, as visible in the image. A fine example of its type. Note: Bowls decorated with bok choy and insects are a classic theme of the late Qing dynasty, particularly during the Guangxu reign. The cabbage is a rebus for 'wealth for a hundred years', while insects symbolize good harvest and scholarly pursuits. This theme was extremely popular at the time . The fine painting, use of gilt, and elegant form are characteristic of high-quality non-imperial wares produced at Jingdezhen for the domestic market and export during the late 19th century. The wax Seal indicates it has been in a US collection for some time.

The circular box and domed cover finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a mountainous river landscape. The scene depicts a scholar seated in a waterside pavilion amongst pine trees, with distant mountains and a fisherman on river rock. The composition is rendered in the style of classical Chinese landscape painting, with careful attention to brushwork and perspective. The base inscribed with a six-character Da Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi mark within double circles. Diameter: approx. 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm) Provenance: Retains an old inspection seal from the cultural relics bureau wax seal. Condition: In excellent condition. The box and cover are free from cracks, chips, or restoration. The cobalt blue is vibrant with minor expected pitting to the glaze, typical of 19th-century wares. The collector's wax seal is intact. Note: This seal paste box exemplifies the scholarly taste of the late Qing dynasty. The ‘Chenghua' mark is apocryphal, a common practice in the 19th century to pay homage to the celebrated wares of the Ming dynasty Chenghua reign (1465-1487). Such boxes were essential accoutrements for a scholar's desk, used to hold the red cinnabar paste for sealing documents and paintings. The presence of the wax seal indicates it entered a Western collection in the early 20th century.

The shoulder decorated with a band of green ruyi lappets pendants beneath an iron red line border, and the foot with a band of stylized lotus petals. The recessed base bears a six-character Qianlong Nie Zhi seal mark in underglaze blue. Height: approx. 7 1/4 in. (18.5 cm) Condition: Good, the body free from cracks, chips, or restoration. The enamels are vibrant with a glossy surface. Minor typical wear to the foot rim. Note: The ‘Three Abundances' sanduo motif is one of the most auspicious in Chinese art. The Buddha's Hand citron represents blessings and happiness; the pomegranate, with its many seeds, symbolizes many sons; and the peach is the fruit of longevity. This theme was especially popular during the Qing dynasty. While the mark is that of Qianlong, the style of painting, enamels, and foot rim suggest a fine Republic period or mid-20th-century copy made for export, executed with considerable skill and decorative appeal.

Late Qing Dynasty / Republic Period late 19 to early 20th Century The well matched two piece set comprises a globular tea pot and a cylindrical tea caddy, each expertly crafted in cloisonné enamel on gilt bronze turquoise ground . The Teapot is of compressed globular form with a curved spout, and a swing wire handle, and a dome cover surmounted by a gilt knot finial.the body is decorated with scrolling lotus and stylized "shou" longevity symbol, and Buddhist emblems, the base bears a three character maker's mark " Tong Shui Tang". The Tea Caddy is of cylindrical form with a slightly domed cover and is centered with a medallion depicting a crane in flight. Comprising: a covered tea pot of cylindrical form with swing handle, curved spout and domed cover surmounted by a peach finial symbolizing longevity, four tea bowls, with rounded form and everted rim; and four elongated boat form octagonal sweet meat dishes. Each piece is well decorated with the hundred Antiques ( Baigu) on rich pink ground. The intricate design features a profusion of auspicious symbols including vases of flowers, scholar's objects, coin patterns and bats for blessings, stylized floral sprays and butterflies. Large Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Archaistic Ritual Wine Vessel Yu With cover. Late Qing Dynasty to early 20th century. The imposing vessel was inspired by ancient Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze Yu, the ritual container, with overhead swing handle. The rectangular body raised on a splayed foot and surmounted by a stepped rectangular cover with a faceted finial. The gilt-bronze frame and handle elaborately decorated with cloisonné enamels in vibrant shades of turquoise, royal blue, red, and yellow. The exterior superbly worked with bands of stylized taotie masks, archaic scrolls, and scale-pattern grounds, all reserved on a blue and red enamel field. The foot decorated with chevron bands above a diaper pattern. The cover with geometric cloud-scroll and confronting dragon motifs. The interior of the body and cover enameled in turquoise. The vessel is raised on a fitted carved hardwood stand decorated with scrolling lotus and key-fret borders. Height with base 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm).

Carved in shallow relief with a scholar and attendant crossing bridge in a landscape scene, set beneath a pine tree beside rocky outcrops, with a distant pavilion. Fine incised detail typical of the Suzhou school. The stone is of an even, icy-white tone with excellent translucency and a soft, waxy luster. 5 in. (12.5 cm) width x 4 in. (10 cm) height 3/4 in. Note: The substantial large size indicates it was carved from a significant boulder of high-quality Hetian nephrite.
