YAYOI KUSAMA (1929- ), ATTRIBUTED TO, LIMITED EDITION PRINT ON PAPER

Provenance and Authenticity:

This work is presented in the visual style associated with Yayoi Kusama's distinctive graphic compositions, characterized by intricate patterning, bold color relationships, and stylized natural imagery. The print features an edition notation, date, and signature within the lower margin and is displayed in a complementary contemporary frame, reflecting the presentation format commonly associated with modern decorative works on paper.

Signature:

Yayoi Kusama

Description:

The composition depicts a stylized fish rendered in vivid shades of orange, red, and yellow, set against a richly patterned blue ground. The artist employs a dense network of repeated forms and mosaic-like surface treatment to create a striking interplay between organic subject matter and rhythmic abstraction. The simplified contours, decorative intensity, and luminous contrast between the warm-toned fish and cool background exemplify the visually immersive qualities that define Kusama's celebrated graphic language.

Historical significance:

Yayoi Kusama is widely recognized as one of the most influential contemporary Japanese artists, renowned for her exploration of repetition, pattern, and psychological space across painting, sculpture, installation, and printmaking. Her works featuring animals, botanical forms, and other natural motifs demonstrate the breadth of her visual vocabulary while maintaining the instantly recognizable aesthetic that has made her an internationally celebrated figure in contemporary art.

Valuation:

Kusama's limited edition prints remain highly sought after for their strong visual identity, broad collector appeal, and close connection to the artist's larger body of work. Compositions featuring bold color, patterned surfaces, and playful natural imagery are particularly desirable, as they embody the decorative energy and distinctive aesthetic that continue to support sustained market interest in her printed works.
