Early World War II Era 1941 Production "R.S." Inspected U.S. Colt Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol Manufactured in 1941, the Robert Sears inspected U.S. Model 1911A1 pistols saw the transition from Colt's high polish blue to the parkerized finish that would become the standard for the rest of World War II production, with this example having received the blue finish before the transition. This specific pistol falls within the range of 2,000 pistols (serial numbers 724,978 to 726, 977) shipped to the U.S. Springfield Armory on March 29, 1941, as listed on page 396 of "Colt .45 Service Pistols" by Charles W. Clawson. It has fixed rounded blade front and squared notch rear sights, the two-line Colt patent dates and address in two block surrounding a Rampant Colt on the left of the frame, a "P" stamp on top of the slide and a matching "726/635" serial number under the firing pin stop, a blued barrel marked "COLT 45 AUTO" and "G" along with "P" on the recoil lug, a boxed "R S." inspection and "G" stamp on the frame under the slide, another boxed "R S." inspection stamp and "P" on the left of the frame, the U.S. property marking and model designation along with the serial number on the right of the frame, "T" over a Colt triangle "VP" factory proof on the left of the trigger guard, and "69" on the right of the trigger guard. Fitted with a checkered short milled trigger, slide catch, wide spur hammer, thumb safety, and arched mainspring housing, along with a pair of checkered walnut grips and a parkerized magazine marked "R" on the toe.

  • Condition: Very fine, retaining 80% plus original blue finish with some smooth grey patina on the front strap and mainspring housing, some minor wear and scrapes, along with crisp markings and stamps. The grips are very good with light rub wear, a compression mark on the left panel, and well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. Overall an attractive original example of a 1941 production Robert Sears inspected U.S. Colt Model 1911A1 pistol!
