Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle Manufactured in 1883. The two-line address/King's improvement patent dates are marked on the top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight, and "32 CAL." is at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873." The serial is marked on the lower tang, and the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "32 CAL." It has a dovetailed blade front sight, adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight, blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate; and is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a metal forend cap and straight grip stock with a shotgun buttplate. The accompanying Cody Museum serial number verification letter shows the rifle configuration, 32 caliber octagon barrel, plain trigger and that it was shipped in order number 8270 on October 19, 1883. It does not confirm the shotgun butt stock.
