Winchester Deluxe Takedown Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle with Casehardened Frame The included letter from the Winchester Gun Museum incorrectly indicates that this rifle was manufactured in .22 short and shipped on June 27, 1901. Also included is a letter from Lewis E. Yearout that explains: "The only item that is correct is the shipping date: The gun is actually a casehardened frame. Pistol Gripped with a Winchester pistol grip cap and with 3X checkered stock. Inside lower tang bears the Assembly or work order no. II895 with XXX for the grade of wood. II895 also is stamped on the stock and buttplate." The rifle is equipped with a combination shrouded post and blade front sight and notch rear sight. The barrel is marked with the two line Winchester address ahead of the rear sight and "22 LONG." at the breech. It is correctly not marked with the Winchester "WP" proofs on the barrel or frame. The upper tang has the three line model and patent information along with an additional screw for mounting a peep sight and the lower tang is marked with the serial number. It is mounted with a nicely figured semi-pistol grip stock with curved rifle buttplate and Winchester hard rubber grip cap and a twelve groove forearm. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1890-Rifle BBL: 24 inch octagon Stock: walnut Gauge: 22 long Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: 110215 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Good. The rifle has traces of the faded original finish and case colors with primarily a mixed brown patina with some patches of oxidation. The revarnished wood is very good with crisp checkering, several light scratches, and some minor chips. It is mechanically excellent, and the markings are crisp.
