Scarce Documented Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Extra Lightweight Takedown Short Lever Action Rifle The accompanying Cody Firearms Records Office serial number verification lists this rifle in extra light takedown configuration with a 22 inch round .30 caliber barrel, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman front and rear sights and 3/4 magazine when it was received in the warehouse on October 10, 1902, and shipped on October 14, 1902. The serial number was applied on September 24, 1902. Equipped with beaded blade Lyman front, three leaf rear and tang sights. The barrel is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking and "30 W.C.F." on top and the two-line nickel steel marking on the left side. The highly figured pistol grip stock features checkering, hard rubber Winchester grip cap and crescent buttplate. The left side of the tang is marked "15290 XX." The butt of the stock is marked "94/T/15290." The buttplate is marked "15290." All Winchesters with non-standard barrels are rare but special order lightweight shorter barreled examples are especially rare. A published survey written by Bert Hartman states that only 459 Model 1984's were manufactured with 3/4 length magazines. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1894 BBL: 22 inch round Stock: highly figured checkered walnut Gauge: 30 WCF Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 156774 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 85% plus original blue finish with thinning and speckling of patina mostly on the balance. There are a few large areas of gray patina with pitting on the right side of receiver. 70% original case colors remain on the hammer, lever and buttplate. 60% attractive nitre blue on the loading gate. The highly figured deluxe wood is very good showing a small crack in the wrist on the right side. There are some minor scratches and a few blemishes in the crisp checkering. The action is stiff but cycles properly. This is a scarce and desirable Winchester Model 1894 needed to complete any Winchester lever action collection.
