Desirable Griffin & Howe Pre-"A" Series Winchester Model 52 Bolt Action Sporter Rifle with Scope Manufactured in 1936. This particular rifle is a scarce "Pre-A" Series that was subsequently customized by Griffin & Howe. The barrel is marked "RE-BUILT BY GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK". Features a hooded beaded front sight, (hood currently absent), with a receiver mounted Lyman adjustable peep sight at the rear, with stock cutout and is equipped with a Hensoldt Targeteer 2 3/4x scope on Redfield bases. The two Winchester proofmarks are offset to the left of the barrel and receiver. "SPORTING" is marked on the trigger guard plate directly ahead of the trigger guard bow. Polished bolt with knurled knob and a detachable Winchester marked magazine. Mounted with a checkered stock with a metal grip cap, cheek piece, checkered metal buttplate, and a silver initial oval. The "FIRE" and "SAFE" on the safety are gold inlaid. The rifle retains 95% period blue finish with some mild muzzle wear, some thinning on the bolt handle, and some thinning and light spotting on the trigger guard bow and plate. The stock is also excellent with a few minor dents, dings and handling marks. There is some minor bruising in the otherwise sharp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is also very fine. The scope is good with some thinning, edge wear and a few scratches. The optics are clear.
