Outstanding Late Production Winchester Model 1886 Lightweight Takedown Lever Action Rifle in the Desirable 45-70 Caliber This is a very late production example of a scarce special order rifle, lightweight, takedown rifle manufactured in 1922. This example has the fast taper, 22 inch barrel with a beaded blade front sight and the sporting, elevation adjustable rear sight. The barrel has late pattern Winchester style markings with the two-line address/patent dates on the left side of the barrel over the forend cap/barrel band with "MADE IN U.S.A." just in front of the rear sight followed by the two-line nickel steel marking and "45-70" at the breech end. The top of the barrel and receiver are both stamped with the "WP" Winchester proofmark inside an overall. The upper tang has the late pattern, three-line model/trademark information, and the lower tang has the serial number "159653A". The takedown lever has the 1893 patent date. It has the early style Winchester blue finish on all the metal parts and a high gloss varnish on the buttstock and forend. The shotgun style stock is fitted with a black plastic impress checkered buttplate with the Winchester logo in the middle. The stock and forend both retain 97% of their factory varnish showing some very minor flaking on the left side of the grip area below the upper tang with some minor light scratches on the left side of the butt with a very small/minor chip/pressure dents at the toe area. The right rear side of the forend also shows a slightly heavier scratch towards the rear of the forend. The buttplate also shows a very minor chip on the upper left side. The rifle looks unfired with only very minor handling marks as noted above.
