Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Single Shot Schuetzen Rifle Manufactured in 1897. The rifle features a #4 32 inch octagon barrel with a windage adjustable front globe sight, with no rear sight seat and the tang is fitted with a medium range Vernier peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.", "32-40" is marked on the top flat at the breech. The bottom flat ahead directly ahead of the forearm is marked "4". The serial number is marked on the lower tang. Blue barrel, casehardened remaining metal surfaces, adjustable double set triggers, and mounted with a nicely figured smooth walnut forearm with an ebony forend insert and modern made reproduction adjustable palm rest, and checkered pistol grip stock with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap, cheek piece and silver plated brass Swiss buttplate. Comes with a Cody Museum research form which verifies the caliber, set trigger, cheek piece, Swiss buttplate and that it was shipped on 6-3-97. The form also shows that the rifle had a 30 inch #3 barrel on it when it was shipped. The receiver retains at least 60% original bright case colors, with the lever having a mix of faded original case colors and a smooth silver patina. The wood shows some scattered minor dents and dings, including a few on the palm rest. The markings are sharp. Mechanically excellent.
