Rare Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1873 Rifle with Documented Ultra-Rare Seven Leaf Express Sights and Factory Letter Manufactured in 1893. The rifle barrel has the extremely rare Winchester seven leaf express rear sight and a Lyman folding combination globe and post front sight. Author James Gordon describes this sight as "The rarest and perhaps most interesting sight found on Model 1873s". He identifies 10 Model 1873 rifles (serial no. 332572-510592) fitted with the seven leaf sight and further notes that most of the enumerated rifles were found in Africa. Other special order features include single-set trigger, deluxe forearm and pistol grip stock and silver plated forearm cap, receiver, dust cover, loading gate and crescent buttplate. The Winchester Museum letter describes this rifle's features as: "44 caliber, octagon barrel, set trigger, checkered stock, pistol grip, 7 leaf sight and Beach sight" and "silver trim". The letter states this rifle was shipped from Winchester on November 3, 1893. The rifle has the third style receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped. The crescent buttplate has a sliding brass trap door. The bottom of the pistol grip has an ebony inlay and the forearm and pistol grip have Winchester "Style H" checkering. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/patent dates. The left barrel flat has the caliber designation. "44 CAL" is marked on the cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang has "{MODEL 1873}" in fancy letters. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1873 BBL: 24 inch octagon Stock: walnut checkered Gauge: 44 WCF Finish: blue/silver plated Grips: Serial Number: 469376 Class: Antique Condition: Fine. This rifle retains 40% original silver plated finish. The barrel and magazine have 20% original blue with the balance a smooth plum-brown patina with some edge and high point wear. Most of the silver plated finish is present on the forearm cap, dust cover and right side plate. The contact points on the receiver, left side plate cartridge elevator and buttplate show more handling wear and retain 30% of the original plated finish with scattered patches of age discoloration. The buttplate has scattered patches of age discoloration with some surface rust on the heel. The hammer and lever have a mottled gray-brown patina. The stock and forearm are fine with scattered minor handling marks, the checkered panels show moderate handling wear and attractive semi-gloss patina. This is a fine documented example of a special order Winchester Deluxe Model 1873 rifle with ultra-rare Winchester seven leaf express rear sight.
