Rare, Fine and Desirable Winchester First Model 1873 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine Manufactured in 1876. This First Model 1873 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine features the distinctive dust cover held in place by grooved guides on either side of the top of the receiver, checkered oval finger grip on top of the dust cover and the lever latch with the visible screw threads. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address/Kings Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight, the upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1873," and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The rifle correctly has no caliber markings. The front sight is integral with the barrel band, and there is a two leaf folding rear sight. Full length magazine tube, blue finish, casehardened hammer and lever and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock fitted with a carbine buttplate with buttstock compartment (cleaning rod not included). The Winchester Model 1873 is one of the most iconic firearms in American history. It was used extensively across America, especially in the Old West, and has appeared in numerous iconic westerns.
