Documented Winchester Factory Master Nick Kusmit Engraved Winchester Model 12 Pigeon Grade Slide Action Shotgun This shotgun is listed by serial number on page 173 of "The Greatest Hammerless Repeating Shotgun Ever Built: The Model 12 - 1912-1964" by Dave Riffle. The table gives a listing of Winchester Model 12 shotguns engraved by Nick Kusmit, as taken from Kusmit's original work ledgers. The ledger notes state the engraving pattern as 12-5, and the date of the work order as October 31,1957. Dual bead sights on the two-pin milled duckbill rib with standard barrel markings, 2 3/4 inch chamber, full choke, and Winchester "WP" proofs on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The receiver is engraved in the 12-5 pattern with ducks in a marsh scene on the right, and two hunting dogs flushing a bird on the left. The scenes are bordered with fine scroll and the lower edge of the left side is signed "NK". The bolt and lifter are jewelled. Fancy checkered extension forearm and Monte Carlo Pistol grip buttstock with a solid rubber recoil pad. The stock measurements are: 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 12 BBL: 30 inch vent rib Stock: walnut Gauge: 12 Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 1756998 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Very fine as factory refinished. 98% of the blue finish remains with faint rippled polishing lines on the barrel, slightly soft barrel markings, some cold blue touch ups on the trigger guard and housing, and crisp engraving. The wood is also very good with attractive grain and figure, crisp checkering, buttstock sitting slightly proud to the metal at the junction, and some small gaps on either side of the bottom of the wrist junction. Mechanically excellent.
