Outstanding Winchester Model 1892 Takedown Lever Action Rifle in .44-40 with Factory Letter The factor letter confirms the serial number was applied on November 5, 1900, it was received in the warehouse on May 29, 1901, and the rifle was shipped two days later in .44 caliber in takedown configuration with an octagon barrel and plain trigger. The rifle has a marble duplex front sight with white bead and a buckhorn sporting style rear sight with adjustable peep eyepiece. The upper tang is factory drilled and tapped. The barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver, bolt, loading gate and trigger are blued and the hammer, lever and crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The stock and forearm are oil-finished straight grain American walnut. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. "44 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver. "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/PAT. OCT. 14. 1884" is roll-stamped in three lines on the upper receiver tang. The serial number "151710" is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. "-PAT. JUNE 6. 1893-" is stamped on the magazine takedown latch. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1892-Rifle BBL: 24 inch octagon Stock: walnut Gauge: 44-40 Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 151710 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Excellent. This rifle is all original and retains 97% plus of the original blue finish overall. Nearly all of the blue on the barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver, bolt and loading gate remains. The magazine has some very minor scuff marks near the takedown latch and on the tube just below the retaining band. Receiver wear is limited to several small scratches near the loading gate. The hammer, lever and crescent buttplate retain nearly all of the muted case colors. The stock and forearm are in excellent plus condition with nearly all of the original finish. This is an excellent example of a Winchester Model 1892 Takedown Sporting Rifle.
